The Lochiel Emerald Society Pipes and Drums is a bagpipe band based in Harrisburg, PA. Past performances include St. Patrick's Day Parades, Memorial Day Parades, Fireman's Convention Parades, as well as Celitc/Irish Festivals.
We currently have a membership of 33 which includes 12 experienced pipers, 4 experienced drummers and a Color Guard. The remaining members are learning the in depth skills needed to perform the delicate functions of the bagpipes as well as the knowledge and abilities for the classical sounds of the drums. The membership includes individuals from police, fire and emergency medical services personnel from throughout Central Pennsylvania.
The name Lochiel was chosen for its connected heritage to the Scottish/Irish neighborhood of south Harrisburg. This area located along South Cameron Street was the "blue collar" district for many of the mill workers and was one of several homes to Simone Cameron, who was a successful businessman and politician. Simone Cameron became President Lincoln's Secretary of War during the Civil War.
The Clan Cameron originated in the barony of Lochiel Scotland. The family clan dates back to as early as the 13th century, and Clan Cameron has been described in the history books as "fiercer than fierceness itself", which represents well, the dedicated service of our emergency workers that serve the entire community.
